The first Methodist Church in Trowbridge was opened in 1836 in Manvers Street. When this was too full, the vision for a Church in Newtown came to life and Wesley Road Church was built in 1872 for the cost of £1,641 2s. 10d.

In 1881 the school rooms were built and in 1898 a Day School began meeting here. Later this transferred to Newtown School.

In 1930 the Church was refurbished, and again in the early 1990’s, when the school room was extended and the church pews removed to make a flexible and pleasant worship area.

Today the church has 75 members, and many more people who are involved in its life in one way or another. This is reflected in the various activities run at or by the Church, both for children and adults.

The Aims of the Church are described in detail on our Church website and outline what we believe the purposes of God for the Church continue to be.

"To Live Again"  -  An Advent Journey Using It's a Wonderful Life

To Live Again is an original Advent Course based on, and inspired by, It's a Wonderful Life.

In four weekly study sessions, structured around key scenes from the film. Each section includes references for watching scenes from the movie, questions for discussion in groups or for private reflection, activities and suggested prayers.

This year our Advent Study will be held on Thursdays in the Church Lounge. All are welcome and don’t worry if you can’t make all four sessions.

                   Thursday 23rd Nov 11am - We’ll watch the movie

Thursday 30th Nov 11am – Session 1: Hopes and Dreams

Thursday 7th Dec 11am – Session 2: When Life Doesn't Go Our Way

Thursday 14th Dec 11am – Session 3: In the Dark Times

Thursday 21st Dec 11am – Session 4: The Right Perspective

Saturday 16th December from 9.30 a.m.

We will gather in the Lounge to enjoy Bacon butties and perhaps more festive food (no, not mince pies!).   We will be singing Christmas hymns, carols and songs that you may remember from way-back-when, family favourites that we just don’t get time to sing nowadays and some that will be new to us.

Rise and shine and come and join us – we would love to see you.

HoHo News.

Many thanks to all who gave so generously of their cash at our Christmas coffee morning and sale yesterday.

We raised the amazing sum of £560 which will be shared between our local branch of Alzheimer’s Support and our own church.
